I recently came to the Hair Cuttery in Greenbelt to have my hair cut (only about two inches), washed, and blow-dried. The website says that a Signature cut and a classic blowout are $35. After touching my hair, seeing the length, and even being able to see the texture (I have about 1c hair, so not too much texture), the hairstylist told me that it would cost $48. While that is not the price listed on the website, I said fine, because I am a very non-confrontational person, and I understand that long hair can take a bit longer.
Mind you, I had very long hair, and only asked for about two inches cut, and the hairstylist (I can’t remember her name) cut about that much off of my hair, however, it was terribly uneven, which I will get to later. Once my hair was cut, she moved on to blow-drying it, she did not even blow it out with a round brush, but haphazardly dried random sections of hair, it taking about 10 minutes for my hair to be fully dried (she said that it took a long time, but 10 minute is not much). She then proceeded to fix the cut, even more, cutting about ½ an inch off, and then again going in haphazardly with a rectangle hairbrush. After she had finished, she told me that because it took too long (it took about 30 minutes tops for a cut, wash, and blowout), she was going to instead charge me $73, I was horrified because I am not even charged that amount at my more high-end hair salon I normally go to.
I agreed to pay, because I was already on the verge of tears at how my hair had turned out, and I did not feel like arguing with her. However, I went next door to Starbucks, took one look in the mirror, and realized how terrible the cut really was. It was choppy, there were long pieces sticking out, and it was much shorter than it should have turned out. So, I went next door again and showed her the pieces I wanted to be fixed, leading her to cut about an inch more off my hair.
What I wanted to be a simple trim, ended up being a major chop, and the ends are almost the texture of hay the way she cut it. I am horrified that I not only had to pay that much for a cut, but that it turned out so terribly. As someone who had a job where I have to maintain a tidy appearance, I am now sitting here in tears because of how terrible my hair ended up looking.
