I brought my teenage daughter in for haircut at the Urbana Maryland Hair Cuttery, 02/22/2020 late afternoon. Prior to our visit, my daughter had indicated to me the length she wished her hair to be cut. Shoulder length. Upon being seated in her chair, the stylist asked how much (length) my daughter wanted cut. I stated what my daughter had told me she wanted, shoulder length, to which the stylist responded, "Well, I don't think we should take that much off." I am unsure why she offered this statement as a reply to our wishes. The haircut proceeded, during which the stylist snagged and tore out an earring from my daughter's ear piercing, which was painful. My daughter was too shy and didn't assert how painful this was to her. The stylist didn't offer any apology, just picked the earring from the floor handed it back, and stated, "No hoop earrings when you're setting your hair cut." However, this was a locking piercing and cannot be removed. Previous stylists have always taken care to notice the piercing and being careful, rather than scolding a girl for a painful experience. Again, no apology was made. The stylist didn't cut my daughter's hair to shoulder length as requested; it is a few inches longer than our wishes. And we walked out the door with a haircut not to our specifications, a painful injured ear, and no acknowledgment of this experience.
